FlutterwaveDjango: Reusable Payment Integration
Every payment-enabled product needs to initiate and check charges, handle validation and make payouts. Reimplementing provider interactions from scratch adds time and creates repeated points of failure. I packaged commonly needed Flutterwave operations into a reusable Python library with a public release.
Made common payment-provider operations reusable across Django projects instead of one-off integrations.
My role: Library author and package maintainer
The challenge
A small development team should not have to repeat the same provider-specific calls every time it adds a payment step to an application.
The part I led
I authored and published FlutterwaveDjango, including card charge initiation, verification, OTP/PIN-related responses and transfer/payout operations wrapped behind a simpler interface. This is an integration layer over Flutterwave's existing SDK, not a claim to have built the payment network or implemented every authentication step.
The result
The package is publicly installable and provides a shared starting point for payment integration in Django products. PyPI confirms the release and maintainer identity; download counts, time saved and production transaction volume are not verified here.
The decisions and work behind it
- Published and maintained a reusable library instead of keeping provider integration private to one app.
- Centralized common charge, verification and payout calls behind a consistent developer-facing interface.
- Documented how to use test and live environments while avoiding unsupported claims about complete payment compliance.
